Sugar-Free Hugo Spritz Recipe

The Hugo — prosecco, elderflower, mint, and lime, born in northern Italy — is the spritz of the moment. In the classic, the sugar hides in the elderflower syrup and liqueur. This Hugo-style version swaps in a Pineapple Spritz Stix: bright, light, and minty, with 0g sugar from the mixer.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pineapple Spritz Cocktail Stix
  • 4 oz prosecco, chilled (or sparkling water / NA sparkling wine for a mocktail)
  • 2–4 oz sparkling water
  • 6–8 fresh mint leaves
  • Lime wheel
  • Lots of ice

Instructions

  1. Clap the mint between your hands to wake it up; drop it in a large wine glass with the Stix.
  2. Fill the glass with ice.
  3. Pour in the prosecco, top with sparkling water, stir gently.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel and a mint sprig.

Variations

  • Zero-proof Hugo: all sparkling water (5–8 oz) or NA sparkling wine.
  • Hugo Rosa: add a splash of cranberry for a pink pour.

FAQ

What is a Hugo spritz? A northern Italian aperitivo: prosecco, elderflower, mint, lime, and soda over ice.

Where’s the sugar in a classic Hugo? The elderflower syrup and liqueur. Ours has none from the mixer.

Does it taste like elderflower? Ours is pineapple-bright rather than elderflower-floral — same light spritz ritual, different fruit.
